The admission policy provides a framework for the selection of students to the academic programmes on a competitive basis of past academic records and performances in the admission test (or equivalent in some cases).

B.S.S. (Honors)

The admission policy provides a framework for the selection of students to the academic programs on a competitive basis of past academic records and performances in the admission test (or equivalent in some cases) as well as interview.

Name of the Degree: Bachelor of Social Science (Honors) in Health Economics
Admission Procedure: A total of sixty students are admitted in the first year of the B.S.S. (Honors) program based on the performances in the admission test of University of Dhaka, and past academic records in HSC (or equivalent) examination as well as SSC (or equivalent) examination. Thirty students out of sixty are get admitted through the ‘D-Unit’ admission test of university of Dhaka which is conducted by the Faculty of Social Sciences and remaining thirty students are recruited thorough ‘B-Unit’ admission test of university of Dhaka which is conducted Faculty of Arts. The rules and regulations of admission test are as set by Faculty of Social Science and Faculty of Arts.

Requirements of B.S.S. (Honors) Degree Completion: To complete the B.S.S. (Honors) in Health Economics the following requirements have to be fulfilled.

• Completion of 35 courses including comprehensive and internship ( total 140 credit hours)
• Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0

Duration of the Program: The B.S.S, program will be of four-year duration divided into eight semesters; two semesters in each academic year.

M.S.S. (Regular)

The admission policy provides a framework for the selection of students to the academic programs on a competitive basis of past academic records and performances.
Name of the Degree: Masters of Social Science in Health Economics.

Admission Procedure: Only those students who have completed B.S.S. (Honors) in Health Economics under the Institute of Health Economics, University of Dhaka are eligible to get admitted in regular M.S.S. programs.
Requirements of M.S.S. (Honors) Degree Completion: To complete the M.S.S. in Health Economics the following requirements have to be fulfilled.

• Completion of 10 courses including comprehensive and internship (total 40 credit hours).
• Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0.

Duration of the Program: The regular M.S.S, program will be of one-year duration divided into two semesters.

M. Phil. & Ph.D.

The rules of University of Dhaka are applicable for admission into M. Phil. and Ph.D. program. However, the following specific points need to be mentioned here.

M. Phil.

Candidates for admission into the M. Phil. Program must possess a Master Degree in Health Economics, or Economics, or Business Studies or in a related discipline. They must possess a good second class in the above examination and should have at least Second Division/Class in all earlier examinations (SSC, HSC and graduation examination). The session of M. Phil. starts in June. The potential students are encouraged to apply at least two months prior to start the session.

Ph.D.

Candidates for admission into the Ph.D. degree program must possess M. Phil. degree in Health Economics from Institute of Health Economics of the University of Dhaka / M. Phil. in Economics from the University of Dhaka or from any other recognized University. The candidates who have not obtained M. Phil. in Health Economics/Economics but have good research and/or teaching experience may be considered for direct enrollment into the Ph.D. Program of the IHE. The admission on Ph.D. is open for all the year round.

1.The Academic Board, on the recommendations of the Academic Committee of the Institute, may relax the qualifications.

2.The Rules contained here are subject to change. Students will be required to comply with the changes in the rules as applicable to them.

Admission Information for International Students

Few seats are available for international students in M. Phil. and Ph.D. programs. The students are selected for admission based on their academic performances at the relevant level. The potential student needs to send an application with the photocopy of certificate(s) and the original copy of transcripts with detailed description of the academic records.

To qualify for admission in M. Phil., the potential student must have good performances and substantial course works in Economics at the graduate and the post-graduate levels from a reputed University.

To qualify for admission in Ph.D., the potential student must have M. Phil. in Health Economics or Economics from a reputed University. The candidates who have not obtained M. Phil in Health Economics/Economics but have good research and/or teaching experience may be considered for direct enrolment into the Ph.D. program of the IHE.

Other Relevant Information for Admission

1. Session of Admission: M. Phil. starts in June and Ph.D. is open for all the year round. The potential students are encouraged to apply at least two months prior to start the session.

2. Tuition fees: An international student must pay 1200 USD per year. If case of re-admission, the same amount of fees is applicable.

3. Accommodation: University accommodation is very limited. However, there is a lot of good quality private accommodation. The rent ranges from 75-150 USD for a single student and 250-500 USD for a family. The students are encouraged to arrange their accommodation of their own. However, IHE will provide assistance in this regard,

4. Food: A student can manage herself/himself by spending on 75USD -150USD for food per month.
